    Biography

Three piece alternative rock band from Dallas consisting of Brandon Curtis on vocals, bass and keyboards, Benjamin Curtis on guitar and backing vocals and Josh Garza on drums. Best described as progressive rock with some Krautrock mixed in, the band’s first full length release, “Now Here is Nowhere,” was recorded at Stratosphere Sound in NY and released May 18, 2004 on Reprise Records. All Music Guide gave the album 4 out of 5 stars. Their second album, “Ten Silver Drops,” like their first, did not make an impact commercially but garnered many favorable reviews. Following the release, the band was interviewed by David Bowie on radio; purported to be a big fan. Benjamin left the band in March of 2007. They have toured with the Foo Fighters, Spiritualized, Oasis, Kings of Leon, Interpol and many others. The band has been inactive since 2010 but Brandon and Josh have reformed and are working on a new album. Anyone interested in Pink Floyd, NEU, Ride, Spacemen 3, Mercury Rev, the Flaming Lips, U2, Super Furry Animals, Sparklehorse & Broken Social Scene should appreciate Secret Machine’s modern day Space Rock. If voted to win, ROG will rescue and issue “Live at the Garage;” a previously unreleased live recording from the WMG vaults that is stellar both in performance and sonic quality

    Biography

Easily one of the most talented and important R&B groups in music history, The Impressions were originally formed in 1958 in Chattanooga as the Roosters by Sam Gooden, Richard Brooks and Arthur Brooks. They eventually moved to Chicago and added Jerry Butler and Curtis Mayfield to their line-up; becoming Jerry Butler & The Impressions. By 1962 Butler, Richard and Arthur Brooks had departed and after signing with ABC-Paramount, Mayfield, Gooden and Fred Cash became a top selling soul act. Their first post-Butler single, “Gypsy Woman,” was their biggest single to date, hitting #2 on the R&B charts and #20 on the Pop chart. “It’s All Right” was issued in 1963 and was a million-selling gold single that topped the R&B charts and made it to #4 on the pop charts; becoming a signature song for the group. In 1964 they issued the single, “Keep On Pushing,” a Mayfield black pride anthem that became a Top 10 smash on both the Billboard Pop and R&B charts, peaking at #10 Pop. In the mid-1960s their writing took on increasing social consciousness and they were compared with Motown acts such as The Temptations, The Miracles and The Four Tops. Curtis created his own label, Curtom, and moved The Impressions to the label. The Impressions were a notable influence on Bob Marley & The Wailers and other ska/rocksteady groups during this period. After the release of the album “Check Your Mind,” in 1970, Mayfield left to begin a successful solo career. He continued to write and produce for The Impressions, who remained on Curtom. Leroy Hutson was the first new singer following his departure but successful singles eluded them and Hutson split in 1973. The Impressions were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in 1991 and into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2003. “For Your Precious Love” is ranked #327 and their hit “People Get Ready” is ranked #24 on the Rolling Stone magazine’s list of Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Their album “The Anthology 1961-1977” is ranked at #179 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. “People Get Ready” was chosen as one of the Top 10 Best Songs Of All Time by a panel of industry songwriters and producers, including Paul McCartney, Brian Wilson, Hal David and others as reported to Mojo Magazine.

    Biography

Los Lobos, which is Spanish for The Wolves, is a rock band from East Los Angeles started by vocalist and guitarist David Hildago and drummer Louie Perez. Their music is influenced by rock n’ roll, Tex-Mex, country, zydeco, folk, R&B and blues. The two met while in high school and bonded over their mutual affection for obscure music such as Fairport Convention, Randy Newman and Ry Cooder. Unsatisfied playing only American Top 40 songs, they experimented with traditional Mexican music that they listened to as children. The band’s first noteworthy public appearance was in 1980 when they opened for Public Image Ltd. In Los Angeles. In 1983 they released their “And a Time To Dance” EP which was well received and sold enough to sustain their progress. In 1984 they released their first major label album, “How Will The Wolf Survive?” The ‘80s film, Colors, includes “One Time, One Night” in the opening credits but the song was not included on the soundtrack. In 1987 the band released their second full length album, “By The Light Of The Moon,” and in that same year recorded some Ritchie Valens covers for the soundtrack to the film La Bamba. The title track became a number one single and vaulted the band into international stardom. In the late 1980s and early 1990s they tour extensively throughout the world, opening for Bob Dylan, U2 and the Grateful Dead. The band and WB parted ways in in 1996 and they subsequently signed with Hollywood/Mammoth Records, releasing more studio albums way into the 2000s. More recently in 2011 the group was awarded the Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2015 Los Lobos was nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame for the first time.
